Why Does India Have Very Few Product Startups?

India is a great country with a vast pool of talent and great power for innovative thinking. But all these positives usually contribute towards entrepreneurship breeding service-based startups. Very rarely do we hear about product startups in India. This is true for many industries, including software industry, though for automobile and pharmaceutical industry I will give benefit of doubt to India. We have good examples of product entrepreneurship coming from these two industries albeit from large established players and not in the form of recent startups.

Groupon has acquired the startup Zappedy, a company which used to offer technology products to the brick and mortar businesses to market their businesses online.

 

Zappedy was founded in early 2010 by Francisco Larrain according to various internet sources. There is not anything much on the Zappedy’s own website except, “We’re excited to join the Groupon Team. Zappedy has been acquired by Groupon.”
